A Russian or Magyar horseman's long sword, 9th - 12th century. Unusually long slender blade slightly recurved towards a double-edged point, the base encased in an iron sleeve briefly extended over the leading edge. Iron hilt, short drooping button quillons, the tang retaining nails for attaching the grips, with bronze hollow elongated pommel. In untouched patinated condition, the blade with patches of non-corroded surface with traces of the scabbard lining, excavation condition. Length 114 cm.
