Wigtown Martyrs Stake on mudflats on the edge of Wigtown Bay outside town of Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
Margaret McLachlan and Margaret Wilson were Covenanter women, arrested and tried for "nonconformity" for attending illicit field-preachings. In an attempt to force them to sign the 'Abjuration Oath', the two women were tied to stakes in Wigtown Bay on 11 May Despite the rising tide, the women refused to recant their faith, and drowned.
