Fishing boats at anchor in the harbour at Kirkcudbright, Dumfries & Galloway in 2021. The town is Named after Saint Cuthbert whose remains were kept here after exhumation at Lindisfarne, later to reinterred at Chester-le-Street. It has been a parish and a Royal Burgh since 1455 and is traditionally the county town. The River Dee seen here flows into the Irish Sea. After his defeat at the Battle of Towton, King Henry VI of England crossed the Solway Firth in August 1461 and landed at Kirkcudbright with his forces in support of Queen Margaret at Linlithgow.
