General stoppage / strike in support of UK miners - May 1926. This old photograph shows a British Bobby (policeman) guarding the staff of a strike breaking bus . The strike lasted nine days, from 4 to 12 May 1926, having been called by the General Council of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in an unsuccessful attempt to force the British government to improve work and wage conditions for coal miners .
