King Arthur and his court watch to see if Galahad can pull the sword from the stone. He does and puts it in his scabbard.

This 1917 illustration by Arthur Rackham shows Galahad drawing the sword from the marble stone floating on the river at Camelot. Written on the stone were words that it would hang by the side of the best knight in the world. Standing by is King Arthur and members of the court watching as Galahad takes hold of the handle. Galahad is successful and puts it in his empty scabbard. The tale is part of Arthurian legend, a vast body of medieval story that centers on King Arthur of Britain.
