Alexander Gerst (born 1976), German astronaut. Gerst is wearing his Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) in his official portrait with mission patches and insignia. Gerst represents the European Space Agency (ESA). Here, he is preparing to take part in the Soyuz TMA-13M mission to the International Space Station (ISS). This mission took place from 28 May 2014 to 10 November 2014, a stay of nearly six months as part of ISS Expedition 40/41. Gert was one of the Flight Engineers on the ISS. He later flew to the ISS again, this time as commander of Expedition 57. Photographed on 3 June 2013.
