CHICAGO- Cpl. Justin Wirth, a fiscal clerk with the Marine Corps Band New Orleans, performs at Navy Pier here, Aug. 15. The performance was part of a three-year national celebration honoring the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner." The festivities began in New Orleans in April 2012 with other celebrations taking place in Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland and other cities. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans undertook a seven-week trip to Northern United States to perform during these events. The Marine Corps’ role in this event reinforces its naval character and showcases the Navy-Marine Corps team. The Marine band also joined Navy Band Great Lakes to perform during the War of 1812 Commemoration celebrations in Chicago.
