Sanders is an assistant fire chief with Cherry Point Security and Emergency Services. He was 28 years old during the attack and was working at Cherry Point. “I was working at the air station when dispatch called for everyone to return to the station,” said Sanders, a native of Havelock, “Everyone was crowded around the television in our chief’s office when the second airplane crashed into the tower.
