Within the chloroplast (peanut-shaped), like black threads, are the grana, membranous stacks where the chlorophyll pigments are stored. It is here that photosynthesis occurs. The large white areas are starch, the first product of photosynthesis. Mitochondria, the sites of cellular respiration, are visible in the cell cytoplasm as dark bown ovals. Also in the cytoplasm is a glycoxysome (white with central markings), where fatty acid is converted to carbohydrate. Magnificaton: X 40 000 at 10x8 inch, X5700 at 35mm size.
