Press conference outlining his plans to build a replica Titanic at the Ritz Hotel in London
The Titanic II designer Markku Kanerva speaks during a Press conference with Australian billionaire Clive Palmer (not in the picture) outlining his plans to build a replica Titanic at the Ritz Hotel in London Britain 02 March 2013. RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City, US. The sinking of Titanic caused the deaths of 1,502 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time of her maiden voyage. The new vessel will look almost exactly like the first, doomed ship. Its silhouette, complete with four graceful backwards-leaning funnels, is virtually the same and its dimensions match the original. Inside much of the original ship – from the Turkish baths to a grand staircase – has been replicated, even while other new features have been added. Titanic II will boast a casino, a modern engine and highly advanced satellite navigation – just like any other modern cruise ship. Of course, it will also – unlike the original – have a large enough fleet of lifeboats to more than cover its projected 900 crew and 2,435 passengers.
