Cows grazing around oak trees in the New Forest. As well as the famous ponies, the New Forest also supports freely roaming cows, donkeys, and pigs. The animals crop the vegetation closely, leaving the green grassy lawns characteristic of this area. The oak is a common sight in the New Forest; some of the trees are several hundred years old.
