Georgia Garrison Training Center, September 9, 2013— Soldiers with Glenville’s Alpha Company 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB) are running exercises during the eXportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) September 9, 2013, at Ft. Stewart. First Sgt. Glenn Gartley, an engineer of 22 years operates a front-end loader in preparation for upcoming training events. Gartley who recently returned to the unit in June, 2013, is a native of Savannah. “It’s good that the Georgia Army National Guard is investing in the local economy,” said Gartley. “I’m looking forward to the demolition part of our training and helping to support the infantry battalions with our unique engineering assets.” Soldiers with the 48th BSTB is hard at work at XCTC, having already built a bunker for the demolition range, performed land navigation courses and hosted the Engineer Sapper States competition amongst their ranks. The Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team hosts the XCTC program to provide Soldiers with an experience similar to combat missions overseas. XCTC is a battalion field-training instrument designed to certify company proficiency in coordination with First Army. More than 2,000 Georgia Guardsmen have converged on the regional training center at Fort Stewart, minimizing cost and time otherwise spent traveling to one of the Army’s Combat Training Centers in Fort Irwin, Calif. or Fort Polk, La.
