Henry II of England authorizes Dermod MacMorrough to levy forces, 1170 (1864). Henry II (1133-1189), the first Plantagenet king of England, ruled from 1154. Here he is authorising Dermot MacMorrough, banished king of Leinster, to levy forces from among the English to try to regain his crown. In return, Dermot pledged his allegiance to Henry. The resultant invasion brought part of Ireland under English control for the first time.
