Stirling, Scotland, United Kingdom. Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most important castles.

Stirling Castle is certainly one of Scotland's most important castles. Its importance is both historically and architecturally significant. The castle rests on Castle Hill surrounded on three sides by cliffs, providing a very strong defensive location. It has been an important fortification in the region from the earliest times. Some of its structures date from the 14th century. It has also served as a Scottish royal residence or palace to several Scottish kings and queens including Mary Queen of Scots.
