Flathead Native Americans, 19th century painting


19th century painting by American artist George Catlin (1796 - 1872) showing Native American Flathead second chief Hoogst-ah-a wrapped in his blanket on the right. At centre, the chief's wife, Lee-le, is shown with a baby on her back, who is undergoing head flattening. In the far left, A boy is fishing for salmon using his harpoon arrows. The Flathead are a North American tribe that live in what is now the state of Montana, USA. Artwork created in 1861.
