For some years past large quantities of Italian onions have been raised from imported seed by truckers in the South. The onions command large prices in the Phila- delphia and New York markets, where they sell as Ber- muda and Spanish onions. ^g»It is a fact that these onions can be grown with equal success North, South, East and West, as has been fully demonstrated by the reports received from our patrons in all sections of the United States. The Italian onions grow rapidly, and, except the Small Queen, form fine, large bulbs, weighing from one to one and a half pounds each, the first year from seed. If set out the second season, instead of running to seed, as do our Ameri- can onions, they continue to grow and increase insize, until same varieties attain the enormous w :ight of two and a half to four pounds each. They are all much milder in flavor than our American onions. GIANT ROCCA, OF NAPLES. A splendid variety, of very mild, delicate flavor, immense size, handsome, globular shape, and light, reddish-brown skin. It is an excellent keeping onion, valuable alike for autumn and spring sowing. In England magnificent specimens were exhibited, weighing 3 pounds g ounces each.
