Alan Turing plaque. English Heritage blue plaque commemorating the birthplace of British computer scientist and mathematician Alan Turing (1912-1954). It refers to him as a 'Code-breaker and Pioneer of Computer Science'. The plaque is mounted on a wall of the Colonnade Hotel, Warrington Crescent, London. During the Second World War, Turing worked as a code breaker, then continued work in computing. In later years he worked on artificial intelligence, devising the Turing test to decide whether a computer can be thought of as truly 'intelligent'. This plaque was unveiled on 23 June 1998.
