Design.—The cross-section of the flask shall be circular and theshape and dimensions shall conform to the diagram shown in This design is intended to insure complete drainage of the flaskon emptying and stability of standing on a level surface, as well asaccuracy and precision of reading. The neck of the flask shall becylindrical for at least i centimeter above and below every gradua-tion mark. There shall be a space of at least i centimeter betweenthe highest graduation mark and the lowest point of the grindingfor the glass stopper. 27 GOVERNMENT SPECIFICATION FOR PORTLAND CEMENT Capacity.—The flask should contain approximately 250 filled to the zero graduation mark. Graduations.—The neck shall be graduated from o to i SPECIFIC GRAVITY FLASK. CAPACITY OF BULKAPPROX. 250 C C Fig. 9.—Diagram Showing Form and Dimensions of Specific-Gravity Flask and from 18 to 24 into divisions. The should be continued two below the o and two above 28 GOVERNMENT SPECIFICATION FOR PORTLAND CEMENT the graduation. The graduations shall be of uniform width, finely but distinctly etched, and shall be perpendicular to the axisof the flask. The graduations shall be at least i millimeterapart. This will require an internal diameter of the neck notgreater than millimeters. The graduations shall extendcompletely around the neck of the flask and shall be numbered toindicate the capacity. The graduations shall extend atleast halfway around the neck and the graduations shallhave a length about midway between the other two. The gradua-tion marks shall have no apparent irregularities of spacing.
