CORRESPONDENCE ENDURANCE TEST FOR HACKNEYS Sir,—I read with great interest that theHackney Horse Society intends to organise en-durance tests for stallions, and generally todevelop the breed more for utility of these are very excellent ideas, but Ishould suggest that one of the first things theydo is to induce breeders and owners of the Hack-ney to lessen the ridiculous action that is culti-vated. It may look very well in the Park andshow-ring, but I cannot see that it would do any-thing else than wear out the legs of a horse thatdoes an average distance most days of the year,and an occasional long journey as well, if it istrained to that action so much admired by loversof the Hackney. Many tradesmen who use light two-wheeledcarts prefer a good Welsh cob, as they survivethe daily wear and tear longer than the doubt my remarks will raise criticisms fromall quarters, but I certainly think that if a stepis taken in this direction by the society, it willgo some
