In 1356, during the siege of Rennes by the Englishmen, as part of the Hundred Years' War, the Englishmen made graze a herd of pigs near the walls in order to attract the starving Bretons out of the city, further to what Bertrand Duguesclin made suspend at a postern of the gate of the city a sow whose shouting attracted the pigs, which entered the city before the Englishmen could react. - Histoire Populaire de la France, Tome Premier, Ch.
