Church Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham 15th June 2023 - West Midlands Fire Service tackled a severe fire in a student halls of residence on Thursday evening. Forty-five firefighters raced to Vale Village, a residential area owned by the University of Birmingham. A 4th floor kitchen in ‘Chamberlain C’ which fronts Church Road in the Edgbaston area of the city was blackened out by the blaze and smoke with firefighters seen inside the property using flashlights to investigate the cause of the incident. The heat of the fire broke the internal panes of the double glazed windows however the fire only broke outside through metal grates on the side of the building. Crews were also seen removing panels on the ground floor to check if the fire had spread further. West Midlands Ambulance Service sent their Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to assist although no casualties were reported. West Midlands Fire Service tweeted: ‘We currently have 45 Fire Fighters in attendance at a Tall building fire on Church Road in Birmingham, please avoid the area where possible.’ An on scene fire officer added: We were called to a flat fire at ‘Chamberlain House’, on arrival the fire was quickly brought under control using assertive firefighting.’ Credit: Stop Press Media / Alamy Live News
