It was concluded that, while the subjection of slugs to fluc- tuating temperatLires increased their acti\dty and food consumption (as indicated by Dainton, 1954), this procedure was not promising as a means for obtaining rapid maturation of slugs in laboratory cultures. Growth rates of slugs at four different constant temperatures were also studied. Twenty-five slugs were placed in each of four tempera- ture controlled cabinets which were held constant at 5°, 10°, 15°. and 28° C, respectively. The mean weights of the slugs were recorded 950 - 900 - 850 - 800 - 750 - 700 - 650 - • 600 - e 550 - 2 500 - f> 450 - ^ 400 - 350 - 300 - 250 - 200 - 150 - 100 - 50 - 0 L-. ©--Maximum weight —Mean weight (25 i lugs ) O--MInI mum weight ,/ J. 8 0 12 3 4 5 6 Time In wee kt Figure 4.
