Negele coffee pulperie near Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia

Negele lies northwest of Yirgacheffe Town The 8 km to the Cooperative Office takes about 30 minutes The route consists of a short section of tarmac out of town 3 km of a good but winding murram road and 5 km of a fairly awful and in places deeply gullied track mostly down hill through small tree shaded coffee farms It is wet and slithery from last night s rain As we drive the impression we have is of an area much poorer than Jimma as was confirmed in our conversation yesterday with Dessalegn Most homes are traditional round houses with low split timber walls no more than 4 feet high no windows small doorways and thatched roofs A typical home would measure about 12 feet diameter only The people are small too
