. Atlas of the rare vascular plants of Ontario. Rare plants; Botany. HABITAT: Woodlands, often rocky, especially by rivers. STATUS: Possibly rare in Canada. Possibly extirpated in Delaware; endangered in Massachusetts; rare in Connecticut, Maryland, and Nebraska. NOTES: Blephilia hirsuta was collected in a single locality in Ontario in 1958 and 1959 and has not been seen since. A search for it in the sanne locality was nnade in 1970 but was not successful. Although it may have been a chance introduction and is now possibly extirpated in Ontario, it is worth noting that it had been previously reported by Dodge (1914b) from Lambton County. A specimen to support this report has not been located. Although rare in Quebec, this species was considered doubtfully native by Bouchard et al. (1983) and was excluded from the list of rare plants of Quebec. Morton 1987.
