He was commissioned captain Sep-tember 2,^, 177.;. in Colonel Reads regiment(Twcnfielii Foot) of Massachusetts, erjisted foreight months. In 1778 he was captain of the NinthCompany. Third Worcester Regiment, and laterin the year was in the Rhode Island campaignunder Colonel Wade. He served in the battle ofWhite Plains in 1776 and won a charge when aretreat had been ordered. His gallantry therebrought to him the offer of a colonels commission,which he declined. He was an honorable man,brave and patriotic officer, trust and loyal friend. i;i)MI Ml 1 I.
