The metalled surface in a Macadam roadneed not exceed, when completed, 9 or W inches, and in many locations wthe traffic is light (i or 7 inches will be found sufficient. The finished Burfaceshould be completed in the same manner as in Telford roads. In the top course good clean gravel m istituted for brokt o stone^witb very good results.
