Duchess of Oldenburg.—Culinary. and free, of fine constitution. Tree strongand erect with long shoots. Forms a prolific bush on theParadise, is also suited for Free stocks when large treesare desired. Fruit medium to large, round and somewhatribbed, green, yellow, and rich crimson, moderately acid,and pleasantly flavoured when fresh, but soon loses itsquality. When at its best it may be used for dessert. Duke of Devonshire.—Dessert. March-May. Chieflyvalued for its late keeping character. Tree very strong,free, open, much branched, excellent on Free stocks andgood as a standard. On the Paradise stock it is rathersmall but very prolific. Fruit med
