Marken Netherlands - 27 May 2016; Marken is a tiny village with a population of 1,810 in the municipality of Waterland in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. Marken forms a peninsula in the Markermeer and was formerly an island in the Zuiderzee. It may look idyllic on this fine early summer day but, historically, this small fishing village has suffered many severe floods through the centuries.
