04/10/21 A bin of Red Windsor apples are plunged into the first tank in the packhouse. Picking and packing apples is an art that’s changed little over millennia. Combinations of manpower, ladders, wooden bins and baskets were core to how every orchard was harvested. Until now. A fleet of space-aged picking machines, many looking like monstrous giant six-legged insects, are now creeping along narrow rows of apple trees in Kent.
