C, till July, lie took part in the battleof Fort Fisher, where he was taken sick, and rejoined his regiment atGoldsboro, N. C; was honorably discharged Sept. 18, 1805. at Ind-ianapolis, Ind. A brother of his wife, John McNabb, served in thelate war and died at Holly Springs, Miss.: her grandfather, John Mc-Nabb, served in the War of 1812. Comrade Carnahans father alsoserved in the War of 1812, and grandfather. John Carnahan, served inthe Revolutionary War. Comrade Carnahan is a member of DeLongPost, 07, he has a pension, is engaged in farming with postoffice ad-dress at Auburn, 578 PRESIDENTS, SOLDIERS, STATESMEN. July 28,1876, when he was transferred to the 5th U. S. Cav.,and waa with Custer in many of his campaigns. lie was adjutant to command in the fall of 1879, ami in the engagements with the (Ites at Milk Creek, was in the command of the skirmishes;his conduct at that battle was valiant in a striking degree. He was ayoung officer of the highest merit, and was killed at Fort Niobrara,Neb., May 11, 1881, while out scouting fur road agents. At the timeof his death he was engaged to marry Virginia White, daughter ofCongressman Harry White, of Pa. His death was mourned by .illwho knew him.
