Westcliff on Sea, Southend, Essex, UK. 6th Jul, 2020. As part of a national movement titled ‘Light it in Red’, various venues in the Southend borough have been illuminated in red in support of the entertainment industries which are struggling due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus lockdown period. The closed venues of the Palace Theatre and the Cliffs Pavilion in the Westcliff area of the Southend Borough were illuminated. The aim is to highlight the need for financial support for the industry to survive. The Palace Theatre was opened in 1912
