While a member of the board he was itssecretary. As local trustee he rendered many importantand valuable services to the institution. He was in allrespects energetic and untiring in his devotion to the in-terests of the school, and his services are justly regardedas having been of great value. From 1873, whileengaged in practice at Terre Haute, Judge Scott, thoughnot a candidate for office himself, always took a leadingpart in the councils of the Democratic party in hiscounty and state. In the presidential campaign of 1876he was a member of the state central and executivecommittees, and was one of the leading spirits in theconduct of the campaign in Indiana.
