(VI) Philander Derby, son of Levi andSally (Stratton) Derby, was born June8, 1816, in Somerset, Vermont, and whena young man was employed at farm workin the vicinity of his home. After spend-ing some time at Worcester, Massachu-setts, he went to Sutton, and from thereto Templeton, Massachusetts, returningto Vermont, where he was in business inthe town of Jamaica. This he sold outand removed to Gardner, Massachusetts,in 1844. T
