Safety fencing or hording fence around the Light Rail construction site at Circular Quay, Sydney with a hire bike suspended from a fence panel
In 2017 thousands of hire bikes were placed all around Sydney and Melbourne cities. With remote locking they were parked anywhere and everywhere. Australians reacted badly to the visual pollution these bike created and there were many instances of damage and misuse of the bikes. Unlike in some other cities there were no specified storage locations or parking racks so bikes were often left on footpaths or worse, in trees and rivers making things seem even worse.
