A chest for crossbow bolts, German or Flemish, 2nd half of the 17th century. Rectangular oak chest, corners reinforced with sheet iron. Lid has a folding carrying handle. Finely engraved escutcheon in the shape of a cherub. Iron key. The inside of the lid shows fine oil painting (slightly restored), oval landscape cartouche with crossbowmen next to a backdrop of ruins on the water, surrounded by scrollwork and leafy garlands with two cupids on the sides.
