Two coronary arteries (red) have fatty deposits (yellow) around them, and one dissected coronary artery shows fat deposits on its inner walls. Angina pectoris refers to pain and spasm in the chest due to insufficient oxygen reaching the heart muscle. It is caused by coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis): where fatty plaques narrow the coronary arteries, decreasing the blood flow. Angina occurs earlier in men. It is treated with drugs or surgery may be required.
