Stentor protozoan. Light micrograph (Interphako contrast) of a Stentor sp. freshwater ciliate protozoan. The body, or cortex, is generally trumpet-shaped with a ring of prominent cilia that sweep in food and aid in swimming. Some Stentor species can grow up to two millimetres in length, making them among the largest single-celled organisms.
