Marburg Virus


Transmission electron micrograph of the Marburg virus, a member of the Filoviridae: negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses. The Marburg virus appears to be native to central Africa and the first reported cases were from scientists exposed to infected monkeys. It can be spread by contact with body fluids from infected individuals.
