When the announcement finally came, everything in theharbour that could manage to do so steamed down the Bayto meet him, and when the launch to which he had trans-ferred from the A lava came up to the mouth of the PasigRiver and under the walls of old Fort Santiago, seventeenguns boomed out a Governors salute, while whistles andbells and sirens all over the bay and river and city filled theair with a deafening din.
