Green Flesh Varieties Long John Cantaloupe When about one foot long, pinch off the tips to make them branch as it strength- ens the growth of the vines and makes the fruit mature earlier. Give plenty of water and feed liquid ma- nure occasionally. A few hills for early use may be had by sowing on pieces of sod in a hotbed, and when warm enough transplant to open ground. 102. Long John Cantaloupe. (75 days.) ("Best in Garden" Main Crop Variety.) Originated, improved and perfected in the great cantaloupe section of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, which is widely known for its grand luscious cantaloupes. It averages 8 to 10 inches long, some in fact grow a foot long. It takes very few to fill a basket. Deeply netted and ribbed. Green fleshed, thickly meated and of most delicious flavor.
