The museum was originally located in a highly ornamented brick Gothic Revival building in Copley Square designed by John Hubbard Sturgis and Charles Brigham which was noted for its massed architectural terracotta in an American building. Printed with the Glaser/Frey lithographic process, a multi-stone lithographic process developed in Germany.
