The series of tests planned by the department of Theo- -retical ard Applied Mechanics was divided into four topics:(l) the coefficient of elasticity of plain concrete in tensionand in compression, (2) the cohesion and adhesion of steel rodsimbedded in concrete, (3) flexure in plain concrete beams and(4) flexure in reinforced concrete beams. The experimentalwork has been done as thesis requirements by senior students inthe college of engineering, different phases of the subjecthave been assigned to different seniors, but the program has been. 3. SO made out that the various parts may he comhined under onegeneral head. The followinr- report includes the investigation upon theflexure of hoth plain and reinforced concrete beams. It isintended to make as complete a report of the results as possibleand to state such conclusions as would arise from ohservations ofthe tests rather than from a study of the data.
