Hence we see besides the front surface of the connective tissue ring its innerwall in perspective foreshortening lying close to the nerve-head (this because the substance of the nerve-head itself is transparent). On the nasal side the optic nerve keeps on contracting conically even withinthe chorioidal canal, because the inner layers of the chorioid come up closer to the optic nerve than dothe outer. The connective-tissue ring which is interposed between optic nerve and chorioid, is narrowhere, does not extend forward, and is covered by the pigmented chorioid and the pigment epithelium, for which reason no scleral ring can be seen with the ophthalmoscope on the nasal side. 102 TEXT-BOOK OF OPHTHALMOLOGY inflow, but to a translation of the variations of the pulse into the retinalvessels) occurs as one of the symptoms of an abnormally extensive diffusionof the pulse-wave all through the body, , in insufficiency of the aorticvalves or in Basedows disease.
