A British fort at Ticonderoga in northern New York was taken by surprise by a small force of Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen of Vermont during the American Revolutionary War on May 10th, 1775. Desperately needed ammunition and guns were seized by the Americans. After seizing Ticonderoga, a small detachment captured the nearby Fort Crown Point.
