Some Palestinians were throwing stones at the Israeli soldiers stationed on the other side of the fence who fired tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and live gunshots at protesters injuring a number of them. A large number of paramedics was present at the sites to assist the injured demonstrators. According to the Gaza health ministry more than 80 Palestinian demonstrators have been injured by the Israeli army, at least one of them critically, in this week border protests. At least 263 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the Great Marches began a year ago. The protest took place amid Egyptian mediation efforts to achieve a long-term truce between the Palestinian resistance group of Hamas and Israel
