Chromosome translocation. Two views of a translocation between the chromosome 5 pair (left) and the chromosome 14 pair (right). The lower view is a fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) micrograph, with the genetic material from chromosome 5 dyed yellow, and that from 14 in red. Genetic material from the top of the right chromosome 5 has been swapped with that from the bottom of the right chromosome 14. In upper frame, this is viewed using standard banding techniques, which does not show the translocation as clearly. FISH is a useful technique for diagnosing chromosomal abnormalities. Magnification unknown.
