View NNW at the remains (a line of small stones) of a Bronze Age field wall at North End, Lundy Island, Devon, UK. Part of a Late Bronze Age (c1500 BC) settlement with small hut circles & fields. Possibly used seasonally for summer grazing, fishing, catching sea birds & egg collecting. The fields, bounded by stone-and-earth banks, were probably used for pasture & stock control rather than cultivation. The peat was burned down to the bare rock in a fire in 1933: lichens & other plants are gradually recolonising the exposed rock.
