Reconstruction of the Arles basilica. Displays from a computer model being used to reconstruct the layout of the early Christian basilica discovered in Arles, France. The semi-circular area at upper right is the stage area of the amphitheatre part of the basilica complex. This basilica, thought to be one of the first cathedrals in what was then Gaul, was discovered in 2003. The remains date from the 4th century, when the Roman Empire had adopted Christianity as its official religion.
