B is a figure of a spiculum, remarkable for itstri-radiate character. From a pond on the Island we obtained a Conferva, ofsingular minuteness, also caught in the act of conjugation, but the period is a very important one, namely, the largemasses of chlorophyle are seen in transitu—tightly wedged inthe tube which, for the present, connects the two plants. The Island of Barbadoes is remarkable for the possession ofa Chalk containing a very large per centage of the (presumed)loricae of extinct animalcules. Their size is (miscroscopicallyspeaking) colossal, and they exhibit forms not found any whereelse in the known world. A figure of one of them, resemblinga jar with a lid to it, is shewn at A. 1855.] PASSING VISITS TO THE RICE LAKE, RIVER HUMBEK, GRENADIERS POND, &c. ^U3. Strangely enough, the Island ponds, opposite Toronto, favored us with specimens, also silicious, and bearing neareraffinity to the fossils of Barbadoes than any yet discovered, sofar as we know.
