Uraninite bearing minerals. Samples of rock composed of a mixture of uraninite (black) and its alteration products gummite (yellow) and curite (orange). Urinite is a radioactive mineral that is an oxide of uranium, often with oxides of lead thorium and rare earth elements included, and is often referred to as pitchblende. It is an important ore of uranium and is mostly mined in Congo, South Africa, Australia and Canada. This sample is from the Panda mine, Likasi, Katanga, Congo.
